Beginner fencing classes

Short version:

Beginner Fencing Classes
Sundays 2-5 PM starting October 2
Cambridge War Memorial near Harvard Square
$3 site fee
18+ years old
Wear comfortable clothes (long pants, socks and sneakers)
Men, please bring a cup

***Please RSVP if possible, so we can make sure we have enough loaner gear.

We're running our next round of beginner classes starting on Sunday, October 2nd. They will run on Sunday afternoons for 8 weeks. Anyone over 18 years of age is welcome, whether or not you know how to fence and whether or not you are a member of the SCA.

What to Bring:

You should wear comfortable pants and shoes with good traction. You should wear socks that adequately cover your lower legs if your pants ride up during fencing movements (no skin may show at any time). Men need to supply their own athletic cup. You may want to bring a water bottle, though both sites have water fountains. Many people also bring a towel and change of clothes for going out to dinner after practice. If you have modern fencing gear you'd like to use, bring it and we'll evaluate it to our safey standards.

Cost:

The War Memorial has a $3 fee which must be paid at the door (small bills preferred). Let them know that you are with the SCA, if they ask.

Directions:

(please use your favorite mapping program for driving directions)
Cambridge War Memorial
1640 Cambridge St.
Cambridge, MA. 02138
617-349-6279

The War Memorial is part of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School.

To come by bus, take the 69 Bus, which stops almost in front of the door. To come by T, take the Red Line to Harvard and walk, which takes about 10-15 minutes. Just cross Harvard Yard and get onto Cambridge Street.

This map shows where you can park (both green and purple lines are valid parking spaces on Sundays). Street parking is metered, but they do not need to be fed during practice times. On Sundays, non-residents can park in the "resident parking only" areas. We have been given permission to use the parking lot at the Cambridge Ellis School at 80 Trowbridge St, Cambridge, MA 02138, which is within easy walking distance.

Please see the Carolingia Fencing Page for general fencing information. Contact me privately with any questions (lilias at carolingia dot org).
